5/6/24 Blog: Rebuttals to the RINO Watch Interview, And Michelle Zellner

HOO BOY FRIDAY'S INTERVIEW RUFFLED SOME FEATHERS Mine included, but also two the people name checked by the RINO Watch representatives. I thought rather than paraphrase for these two women I'd ask them to come in and discuss the dirt tossed their way Friday. Deborah joins me at 12:30, and Kelly Maher joins me at 1. Listen to the interview here to do your prep!

MICHELLE ZELLNER IS NOTING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MIND AND BODY With her latest blog post on the subject here. May is Mental Health Awareness AND Sports and Physical Activity Month and those things go together in a big way. She joins us at 2:30 to talk about it all.

TRUMP WOULD FAIL THE REPUBLICAN PURITY TEST I know this is very in the weeds Republican party stuff but not only is it important (if we don't get a functioning opposition party soon Democrats will take the state so far down it can't be fixed) it's also WILD. This column from Westword lays out the many, many ways Donald Trump would out himself as a RINO if he took this purity survey sent out the Dave Williams hijacked GOP Executive Committee. I know, I know, it's Westword, but the reporter provides links so you can check them out yourself. I urge you to do so and then demand answers like the one in the following essay. Dick Wadhams writes about the purity test here.

THE COLORADO GOP NEEDS TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS And I published a guest blog yesterday about it. We shall discuss.

NON POLITICAL TOPICS, I SWEAR! I promise this won't be the GOP dumpster fire all the time, I swear! I posted this on my Facebook page and a firestorm broke out. Check this controversial post out!

Here is a link to the CDOT website confirming this is what we are supposed to do. You're welcome.

TOM SELLECK WAS ON CBS SUNDAY MORNING you're welcome again.

CAR RENTAL COMPANIES COULD SAVE TABOR! Because they got sick and tired of having "fees" jacked up on their industry to pay for public transit for Denver and Boulder so they are backing a couple of amendments that would slam shut the "fee" loophole being exploited constantly by the Legislature. Read more here.

HOLY HECK OUR HOMELESS RESPONSE IS VERY, VERY INEFFECTIVE When it comes to moving people from shelter to permanent housing. This review by the Denver Gazette shows how bad the failure rate is. This is awful.

WHAT ARE TIME SUCKING THINGS YOU WORRIED ABOUT WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER? This one hit for me because I'm coming up on 55 and that seems significant and a moment I should so some reflecting, right? I wasted so much time trying to please other people. So. Much. Time.

OIL AND GAS CALL FOUL ON NEW BACKROOM CREATED FEES If you want to know why your energy costs have gone up so much read this. In it representatives of the oil and gas industry remind us of why we are paying for much more expensive renewable energy instead of much cheaper coal fired power while also explaining how the Democratic Legislature broke their own rules to broker a deal with the largest oil and gas companies to pass fees that hurt their competitors in Colorado. It's shady as hell and totally unsurprising.

DO YOU WANT YOUR TABOR REFUND GIVEN TO SOMEONE ELSE? That is EXACTLY what the Democratic legislature is planning to do. So what if you're on a fixed income and need your money, they don't care. They are creating a scheme to give it to families they decided need it more than you do and I'm not sure how to stop it. Read an editorial about it here.

TEEN FALL INTO ABANDONED MISSILE SILO But most are okay with one sustaining serious but not life threatening injuries. The kids trespassed onto the site in the middle of the night before they fell in. Sounds like something teens would do. I'm glad they are all going to be okay.

ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES FOR MOMS! Vitalant blood centers are urging everyone to roll up their sleeves and donate this week in honor of Moms. Many women with difficult deliveries need blood to survive so if you want to honor your mom, give blood this week. Find out where here.

JOURNALISM STILL DOESN'T GET WHY JOURNALISM IS FAILING This is a very long article lamenting the loss of "swagger" in newsrooms across the country. It does a deep dive into the glory years when this supposed "swagger" was on full display for 150 years in America and even offers suggestions on how to get swagger back (Substack anyone?) but not ONCE does it consider WHY media is not trusted by anyone in the country aside from some diehard NYTimes readers who get spoon fed their own biases every day. People don't trust journalists because they are hopelessly partisan. Newsrooms lost swagger because the new generation of Ivy League educated journalists are hopelessly biased. It's absurd to me that people who work in this industry can be so dogged in refusing to admit they have a bias problem, not a swagger problem. The author even totally mischaracterizes the Uri Berliner piece on NPR's bias by saying it "ripped the broadcaster for prioritizing process over substance." That's not at all what he said. Read it if you want but there is little surprise in it.

REMEMBER WHEN HOLLYWOOD TRIED TO OVERTURN THE ELECTION? I had forgotten about this gem from 2016 when they tried to get Electoral College members to change their votes to keep Trump from taking the White House.

WHEN THE COST OF GOING GREEN HITS NORMAL PEOPLE This is a good read on what happens when green energy edicts hit the middle class and it's not good. This stat jumped out at me:

For now, energy-transition fatigue is setting in. Three-quarters of energy consumers say they have already done as much as they can to be sustainable, according to a survey of 100,000 people over 20 countries by the research arm of accounting firm Ernst & Young.

What does this even mean? Are all of those people using solar panels and electric heat pumps? Have they done as much as they can or as much as they are willing to do? Just curious.

ISRAEL IS SUPER BAD AT GENOCIDE As they are warning Palestinians in Rafah to get out before an offensive there designed to complete the dismantling of Hamas. Rather than just kill them all, which would be actual genocide, Israel is telling them to leave temporarily before the offensive begins. This after Hamas fired rockets at Israeli troops positioned on the border with Gaza near Israel’s main crossing for delivering badly needed humanitarian aid, killing four soldiers. Israel shuttered the crossing. Hamas wants Palestinians to suffer and die.

YOUR CELL PHONE IS DISGUSTING AND HERE'S HOW TO CLEAN IT I don't know the last time I cleaned my cell phone but frankly I don't really care. It hasn't given me ebola yet so why bother? This is why I don't hang out with microbiologists, they know things like this.

ONLINE SHOPPING IS SAVING BRICK AND MORTAR STORES As they figure out how to use those stores as hubs for online delivery and more. Read more here.

WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE MORE TIME OR MONEY? That is the question asked by this column in Financial Times. From the article:

Europeans have more time, and Americans more money. It is a cop-out to say which you prefer is a matter of taste. There are three fairly objective measures of a good society: how long people live, how happy they are and whether they can afford the things they need. A society must also be sustainable, as measured by its carbon emissions, collective debt and level of innovation. So which side does it better? Americans, who typically have less paid holiday, notch up the equivalent of more than an hour of extra work every weekday, compared with Europeans: 1,811 annual hours per American worker in 2022, versus about 1,500 across northern Europe, bottoming out at 1,341 in Germany, according to the OECD. Because Americans are also more productive per hour worked than most Europeans, their average incomes are higher than in all European countries bar Luxembourg, Ireland, Norway and Switzerland.

Would you rather have time or money?

CHRIS PARENTE IS TALKING ABOUT HUGE WEINERS And I think he's hilarious.

DOUG LAMBORN ENDORSES JEFF CRANK And I hope this is enough to lift Crank over and above the vile Dave Williams. Note the "with credibility" at the end. One more note, Crank primaried Lamborn twice and lost and now Lamborn is endorsing him.

I KNEW IT! Elon Musk finally admits it.

COLUMBIA CANCELS GRADUATION CEREMONIES Because the ineffective President has been unable to bring protests to heel. I don't care but I'm sure the parents who shelled out big bucks for kids who missed their high school graduations because of covid do.

HOW NOT TO GET PODCAST SUBSCRIBERS This is pretty much what not to do. And who is this guy again?

DON'T DO THESE THINGS WHEN YOU GET YOUR HAIR CUT A stylist has compiled a handy list of what not to do when you get your hair done. I can't even believe this is necessary but here we are.

RICH PEOPLE HAVE RUINED COLORADO On this list of things rich people have ruined for everyone imagine my surprise when I saw this entry:

"The state of Colorado. I was born there, but now I'm forever priced out of my hometown. All my friends and I have moved because we just can’t afford to live there anymore. It's mostly expensive due to housing, but skiing also used to be an affordable hobby that has become prohibitively expensive."

They aren't wrong. Put us on the list along with pickup trucks and thrift stores.

WHEN TAYLOR LORENZ MAKES DON LEMON SEEM REASONABLE Take note, Taylor Lorenz works for the Washington Post as a columnist and she thinks gay people are treated the same in Texas and Florida as they are in Gaza. She must have missed Gay Days at Disney.
